Worth the wait …
The City of Castle Pines partners annually with Mental Health Colorado, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization working to promote mental health, end stigma and ensure equitable access to mental health and substance use services. This year’s “Unmasked” event will feature five-time Olympic gold medalist swimmer, Missy Franklin, as its keynote speaker.
“It’s been two years since Franklin agreed to come to Colorado and share her story, and we are so thankful she has stayed committed to coming,” said Michael Penny, manager for the City of Castle Pines.
The cocktail-attire masquerade ball, held at the beautiful Haven in the Pines venue, features heavy hors d’oeuvres, a reception and cocktails, a string quartet, and a silent auction and paddle-raiser. A special highlight of the evening is when a few community members share the inspiring stories of their mental health struggles and then remove their masks to reveal their identity.
According to Mental Health Colorado, more than one million Coloradans experience a mental health or substance use disorder each year. Yet most, including an estimated 60 percent of adults and 70 percent of children, never get the care they need.
