What’s your APPtitude? Feeling haunted? Check out Ghost Observer

By Kathy Fallert

Ghost Observer is an entertaining camera tool that shows ghosts around you in an augmented reality experience. In other words, the app uses a technology that superimposes a computer-generated image on the user’s view of the real world and creates a new composite view.

As Halloween quickly approaches, with scary movies and costumes being all the rage, get your pre-teen or teenager looking warily over their shoulders with this interactive app. It helps you detect, observe and even interact with ghosts. The app is free for Android and iOS but does require a fee of $1.99 for Ghost Observer Pro or $2.99 for Spiritism Detector if you want the animated ghost to do more advanced features such as answering yes or no questions or having their spooky voice noises translated.

It is recommended that you use this app in the dark and with the sound turned on. I tried it in my living room in broad daylight and have to admit to being a bit creeped out by it! It locates the ghosts near you right away so when you point to them on the app’s radar you will make contact. It analyzes the spirits it is contacting and tells you the ghost’s age and type such as “vengeful spirit.”

The app is rated for ages 9 years and older. I definitely wouldn’t recommend this app for young kids. As the mom of two 12+ kids, I know their fascination with the spirit world. We have always requested the most haunted table when dining at The Melting Pot, and my daughter has often been searching for spiritual orbs throughout dinner. A graveyard would be a great setting as well – so you can see who you can’t see.

Have some fun this Halloween and give Ghost Observer a try with your teen. Please keep in mind this is for entertainment purposes only and has no scientific basis. Happy haunting!
