What to do When a Solicitor Calls
By Carin Kirkegaard
Summer is here and along with the long hot days come solicitors canvassing the neighborhood. Residents in Castle Pines North can avoid unwelcome solicitors by simply purchasing a “no solicitation” sign and placing it near the doorbell.
According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO), any person engaged in door-to-door selling of merchandise or goods in unincorporated Douglas County is required to register at the DCSO Records Unit. If a solicitor visits, ask to see the solicitor registration card from the DCSO. Make sure to keep a locked barrier between the solicitor and yourself.
Violation of this ordinance is a Class 2 petty offense punishable by a fine of up to $600. Non-profit organizations are exempt from this ordinance.
Remember to never do business with someone who shows up uninvited and offers to provide a service. Report any suspicious solicitors to the DCSO at 303-660-7505.
