What is there to a “Ted Talk”?

By Michelle Post

Everyone has a story inside.  That story could be the one that saves a life or inspires another to make social change or to become a global difference maker.  That is what TED is.  TED is a platform to share stories called TED Talks and to “spread ideas.”

TED stands for technology, entertainment, and design, and the platform was born in 1984.  Speakers for TED cover a range of topics from alternative energy to storytelling and everything between.  Topics can be funny, inspiring, courageous, beautiful and informative.  TED Talks are live events around the world, and each talk lasts from three to 18+ minutes.

TED Talks can be streamed on any device with an Internet connection, or they can be downloaded for off-line watching.  TED Talks can also be listened to as a podcast.  TED Talks are “brain breaks” providing micro-bytes of learning on many topics.

“My idea of a perfect world really can’t be designed by one person or even by a million experts.  It’s going to be seven billion pairs of hands, each following their own passions.”

— Jay Silver

Are you a teacher?  Try TED Talks to enhance your classroom.  Need inspiration for your next speech?  Watch some TED Talks.  Instead of watching television for entertainment, watch TED Talks for transformation.

Additionally, TEDx events are TED-style events held at the local level.  Colorado has several TEDx events.Visit bit.ly/CPC_TEDx_Colorado to attend an event or better yet, apply to be a TEDx speaker.

We are waiting to hear your story!

What we’re finding is its not necessarily the reality that shapes us, but the lens through which your brain views the world that shapes your reality.  And if we can change the lens, not only can we change your happiness, we can change every single educational and business outcome at the same time.”
– Shawn Achor, American happiness researcher, author and speaker
