Taylor Kelly, a sophomore at Rock Canyon High School (RCHS), and resident of Castle Pines Village, had a very exciting summer! In June, Kelly was crowned Miss Colorado Teen after competing in the Miss Colorado Teen pageant.
The Miss Colorado Teen pageant is affiliated with the Miss America pageant organization, and the contestants represent approximately 15 areas of Colorado. Kelly participated in the Miss Highlands Ranch pageant and her win there propelled her to the state level Miss Colorado Teen Pageant.
Kelly was encouraged to begin competing only two years ago by a family friend. This pageant was the fourth pageant that she has participated in, and her win surprised her! “When I won, I was shocked!” remarked Kelly. “The year before when I competed I didn’t even place in the top five, so winning was an amazing feeling. When I was announced Miss Colorado Teen, the feeling I had was indescribable!”
Kelly was evaluated in a one-on-one interview with the judges, an on-stage question, an evening gown competition, and a fitness wear competition. Kelly received scholarship money for her win, and she will participate in a great deal of charity work and make many appearances throughout the year ahead. Kelly enjoyed all aspects of the competition, “My favorite part of competing was definitely spending time with all the amazing girls there. I gained so many great friendships and I’m so blessed!”
One of her recent local appearances with the Global Down Syndrome Foundation deeply inspired her. Kelly worked with their local fashion show contestants. “It was wonderful to see everyone having such a fun time, and the Foundation is truly amazing!”
Kelly is active in her community and her school. She participated in cheer as a freshman at RCHS, and plans to run track this year. Kelly’s warm personality allows her to be surrounded by many friends and she loves spending time with them and with her family.
