Timber Trail singers perform in Honor Choir

Douglas County School District Honor Choir had 115 participants singing at this year’s festival held in February.
The Douglas County School District Honor Choir is made up of fifth- and sixth-grade students from multiple elementary schools in Douglas County. Nine fifth-grade students from Timber Trail Elementary (TTE) participated in Honor Choir with a total of 115 students this year. After many joint rehearsals, the musicians performed at a festival at Ponderosa High School in February.
The singers had limited school rehearsal time and spent hours practicing at home to learn the music prior to the event.
“It’s a big responsibility, but all of the participants rose to the challenge,” said Camille Ringenberg, music teacher at TTE.
Included in the performance was a descant, an advanced singing technique, where two singers from each school sang at a higher pitch above the main melody. Riya Patel and Peyton Sherman represented TTE.
“My favorite thing about Honor Choir is to sing together with my friends because the singing sounds so good together,” said Riya.
The choir performed several classics including Gonna Rise Up Singin’, Build Me A World and Exsultate Cantamos Festivo.
“I like that I can build better relationships with others and sing fun songs,” said fifth grader Aashna Nair.
