Twin Lakes
The gem that is Twin Lakes
Article and photos by Michelle Post
I have lived in Colorado 17 amazing years, and I continue to be awed by the many incredible sites to see. A friend told my husband and me about Twin Lakes, a gem in the Colorado mountains between Leadville and Aspen. You step back in time when you arrive at Twin Lakes, a small and quaint village filled with an abundance of peace, tranquility, and beauty.
Twin Lakes is appropriately named for the two glacier-created lakes that flow one into the other. Surrounding the lakes are thick forests of pine trees and Aspen groves. Every season is beautiful at Twin Lakes, but I must say fall is my favorite, for the Aspen groves fill the hills and mountains with gleaming patches of gold.
“Autumn burned brightly, a running flame through the mountains, a torch flung to the trees.”

Twin Lakes offers something for everyone. It offers kayak, canoe, and paddleboard rentals. You can also take a guided boat tour of the lake that will take you to the former Interlaken Resort. Not into water sports? No problem. Twin Lakes offer hiking, biking, and camping. That’s still not your style? Then stay at one of the local inns or lodge.
If you want to get away for a few days, then Twin Lakes is a wonderful destination. Leave the hustle of the city and step into the serenity of nature. For more information visit, www.leadvilletwinlakes.com/natural-attractions-detail/twin-lakes/.
