The Canyons annexaton update
By Terri Wiebold with information submitted by The Canyons
The Canyons community continues to progress through the annexation process for the City of Castle Pines North. Council members agreed in June that The Canyons’ application for annexation into the City of Castle Pines North met the eligibility requirements laid out under state law.
The Canyons team continues to meet with city officials and community leaders. The next series of open houses for community members to learn more about The Canyons are slated for Friday, August 28 from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, August 29 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., on The Canyons property.
According to the City’s Community Development Planning and Zoning Director Sam Bishop, the City mailed out approximately 80 referral information packets on June 30 to surrounding homeowner associations, metro districts, and governmental agencies. The referral packets contain information regarding densities and land uses, among other things.
Agencies have 35 days to make comments and return the packets to the city by August 5. As of press time, fewer than 10 agencies had provided comments. Referral packets are available at the city administrative offices. Contact your homeowner association to make sure your input is included.
The Canyons is a proposed community of homes nestled among parks, open space and regional trails, and complete with new areas for shopping, employment and restaurants. Plans include up to 2,500 homes arranged in various neighborhoods across 3,344 acres.
