Teacher of the Year nominee

Rocio Meli was nominated for the 2023 Colorado Teacher of the Year as one of seven finalists. On October 11, the City of Castle Pines recognized her for outstanding achievements and dedication to the Douglas County School District.

Meli is a Spanish and English language teacher
at Castle Rock Middle School and also teaches InnoV8, where students collaborate to create ways to help others in need. Meli’s family members were present to honor her, including her daughter, also named Rocio, who joined from Maryland via FaceTime.

Mayor Tracy Engerman proclaimed October 11 – 18 as Rocio Meli Week (see related story page 35).
