Teacher Kick-Ball Game a Hit
Exactly how many screaming fans filled the gymnasium at Rock Canyon High School to cheer on their team at the second annual Teacher Kick-Ball Game on November 4th?
“About a million,” ventured one first grader from Buffalo Ridge Elementary. Well, there weren’t quite a million, but there were enough to raise hundreds of dollars to benefit the Health and Physical Education programs at Timber Trail and Buffalo Ridge.
Unlike last year’s contest, the 2004 Kick-Ball tournament was dominated by the Timber Wolves of Timber Trail Elementary.
The Official, Final Score of this year’s game was:
Timber Trail: Quite a Lot
Buffalo Ridge: Quite a Bit Less
But the focus wasn’t on the scoring; it was on the fun as students cheered the kickball skills (or lack thereof) of their teachers, principals, and staff. At half-time, everyone had fun getting down on the Rock Canyon gym floor to dance the “Stomp.”
Television anchor Tom Green was the able emcee once again this year, and also served as the auctioneer when it was time for the silent auction portion of the evening. The crowd bid generously on a pair of Nuggets tickets that included bench seats before the game.
In addition to the funds raised for the schools, more than $825 was collected for Buffalo Ridge student Codie Otersen, who survived a tragic automobile accident last Fall. In combination with additional funds that have been collected at the school, more than $1200 has been donated to help the Otersen family.
