Local Douglas County business tw telecom was pleased to host its 14th annual Charity Invitational Golf Tournament to benefit SungateKids at the beautiful Country Club at Castle Pines in August.

Tw telecom and SungateKids have a close partnership that has resulted in tw telecom donating more than $4 million over the years to SungateKids to fulfill its mission of treating and healing victims of child abuse and neglect.

Each year, tw telecom solicits its vendors, customers and employees to participate and donate to this worthy cause. This year, representatives from 62 different companies participated in the event. A total of 176 golfers came from all over the country to support tw telecom and its mission to support SungateKids.

For the first time in tournament history, not one but two golfers (Dave West and Hunter Atkins) hit a hole-in-one, and both on the same hole! Atkins hit his first career hole-in-one after coming from Indiana to represent his company EXFO and he was exuberant.

“Wow, what a feeling!  I have been playing golf for probably 30-plus years, and I can tell you I have never really come close before.  To have my first hole-in-one on such a beautiful course and scenic hole, what an honor!  It was a very exciting day for me for sure.” As for why he played, Atkins remarked, “My company and I support this great cause because anytime you can provide to supporting children in need, and help to turn their life around or make them feel safe, count me in.”

Tw telecom succeeded in raising more than $420,000 at the tournament, which it gave directly to SungateKids.
