Summer library events in CPN

Treasure It! Summer Reading Program – Register June 1 through July 13. The summer reading program begins June 1. Register online or at the library by July 13. Completed logs must be turned in by July 27. Programs are available for kids and adults:

Youth Program (Ages 0-12):

Sign-up and receive a voucher for a free ticket to a Colorado Rapids Soccer game. Read or be read to 12 hours and receive a free ticket to Elitch Gardens. Teen program (ages 10-18): Sign up and receive a voucher for a free ticket to a Colorado Rapids Soccer game. Read 18 hours and receive a free ticket to Elitch Gardens.

Adult program (ages 18 and older): Sign-up and receive a voucher for a buy-one-get-one burrito from Chipotle. Read four books and be entered into a drawing for a $100 Visa gift card to treasure at your favorite local store.

Storytimes

Storytimes are planned for 10:00 a.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays and at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday nights. The first Tuesday of every month is Tai Chi Storytime where Tai Chi is integrated into the session. Storytime on the second Tuesday of every month will include a craft.

College Bound Book Club

Sharpen your skills for the SAT and ACT and prepare for college by reading some great books over the summer. This book club is aimed at senior high school students who want to discuss great books with no quizzes and no tests. Attendees must be in 9th to 12th grade.

June 14 – The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand
July 12 – Mudbound by Hillary Jordan
August 2 – Pride and Prejudice

Bottle Cap Art
June 25 at 5:30 p.m.

Bottle Cap Pendant Art! Come to the Castle Pines Library on Friday, June 25 at 5:30 p.m. and make a cool “Twilight” pendant you can wear to the opening of “Eclipse” on June 30. The craft class and your pendant are free, but you must register to attend this after-hours program. Call 303-791-7323 or visit www.DouglasCountyLibraries.org to register. For ages 10-18.

Fantasy/Science Fiction Parent-Child Book Club
June 28 at 6:30 p.m.

This is a book discussion group for 8-12 year old kids and their parents. June’s book is “Found” by Margaret Peterson Haddix. In this story, when thirteen-year-olds Jonah and Chip, who are both adopted, learn they were discovered on a plane that appeared out of nowhere, full of babies with no adults on board, they realize that they have uncovered a mystery involving time travel and two opposing forces, each trying to repair the fabric of time.

Mother/Daughter Book Club
July 19 at 6:30 p.m.

This is a book discussion group for 8-12 year old girls and their mothers. July’s book is “The Fairy-Tale Detectives” by Michael Buckley. Orphans Sabrina and Daphne Grimm are sent to live with an eccentric grandmother, Relda Grimm. Grandmother Grimm lives in a strange town in New York State, known for it’s extraordinary number of unexplained and unusual crimes. This mystery intermingles humor, excitement, adventure and imagination.
