Stop and Shop in Our New City

by Anthonette Klinkerman

Now it matters more than ever where Castle Pines North residents shop.

Incorporation efforts all began over which community, Castle Pines North or Castle Pines Village, was going to benefit from the sales tax revenue generated by the CPN business district.

Seventy-seven percent of CPN’s residents voted to support incorporation in order to secure the use of potential sales taxes generated by local businesses. When implemented by the new City Council, one hundred percent of those sales tax revenues go back into the City of CPN, and will continue to do so until the Village successfully incorporates. With CPN soon becoming a city, those monies will feed directly into funding contracted services such as snow removal, road repair and maintenance.

Sharon Kollmar, president of the Business in the Pines, stated that many businesses struggle to make it in CPN because “big box” stores to the north and south draw shoppers who think they are getting a better deal and more convenience. “What consumers don’t realize, however, is the money spent there, stays there. Benefits the local community could be reaping are instead going to another city,” said Kollmar.

Items such as eyewear, pet supplies, flowers, chiropractic health, dental services, and salon services such as manicures and hair styling are all available right in CPN. Postal services, dry cleaning, and five restaurants and other specialty food stores round out the options. Shopping locally will help strengthen the CPN community, and in turn, the new city will be able to better serve its residents. Save time, and gas – shop in CPN!
