Stolen Vehicle Crashes in Front of Middle School

Submitted by Deputy Cocha Heyden, Public Information Officer, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office

Douglas County Deputies are investigating a traffic crash that involved a stolen vehicle that had been warming up in a driveway this morning.

At around 6:30 am, deputies received a call that a vehicle had just been stolen from the driveway of a house in Highlands Ranch. Deputies were in the area looking for the vehicle when it was spotted near the intersection of University Blvd and Highlands Ranch Pkwy. When deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver sped off heading eastbound on University. The deputies began to pursue the car, but due to the road conditions being slick and the traffic volume in the area they terminated the pursuit. They were able to see that the stolen vehicle was headed eastbound on University then made a southbound turn onto Quebec, out of sight.

A few minutes later dispatch reported an unknown injury crash involving two vehicles on Monarch Blvd in front of Rocky Heights Middle School. One of the vehicles involved matched the description of the stolen vehicle. When deputies arrived on scene they discovered an adult male in the stolen vehicle with serious injuries. The adult female driver of the other vehicle, a Silver Subaru, had minor injuries. A juvenile male passenger in that vehicle had no injuries. The adult male in the stolen vehicle was taken to an area hospital and his condition is unknown. His identity is not being released at this time.

Traffic Accident Investigators were called to the scene and are conducting the traffic investigation. At this time it appears that the stolen vehicle was traveling southbound on Quebec/Monarch, lost control and went side ways into the victim vehicle which was slowed to almost a stop heading northbound on Monarch.

This is still an open investigation and more information may be released when it becomes available.
