Speed racing teen wins big in national race

TJ Stark (15) racing at the Tulsa Shootout last month. As the youngest driver to earn a coveted spot in the A-Main finisher, TJ finished 13th in a field of world class competitors.

Last month, 1,900 of the world’s fastest drivers converged in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for the prestigious Tulsa Shootout—the largest micro sprint car race in the world. This high-octane event draws top talent from NASCAR and beyond. Joining this elite field was Green Briar neighbor TJ Stark (15), a freshman at Rock Canyon High School, who was the youngest driver to win.

Throughout the week of competition, elimination races narrowed the field to the 24 fastest drivers for the coveted finisher, the A-Main “Feature” race, to include big names like NASCAR’s Kyle Larson.

TJ proved his talent by placing eighth overall in points, outperforming the majority of the field, including all of the NASCAR drivers. In his heat race, TJ delivered a stunning performance, moving from seventh to first to secure the win and earn his spot as the youngest driver to earn a spot in the coveted final race.

TJ battled fiercely in the A-Main, finishing an impressive 13th in a field of world-class competitors. Congratulations to TJ!

A little more about racing…

A micro sprint is a small, high-powered race car built for dirt track racing. Typically powered by motorcycle engines, these cars can reach speeds of up to 70 to 80 mph on short tracks and 90 to 100 mph+ on longer tracks. Micro sprints are fast, agile and exciting to watch, making them a favorite in grassroots motorsports.

Competing in the A-Class or A-Main category means racing without aerodynamic wings, relying on the skill of the driver and the setup of the car for grip and control on the challenging dirt surface.
