Some like it hot

Article by Kathy Dunker

Nearly 400 people attended the 4th Annual Best in the West Chili Championship last month in Castle Pines Village – sponsored by the Rotary Club of Castle Pines. For three hours, attendees got to sample the various chili concoctions from the 23 teams who entered and then cast a vote for their favorite recipe. A live blues band serenaded as the tasters roamed from tent to tent to entice their taste buds.

The awards were divided into two categories; red chili and green chili. Each team had to provide four to five gallons of chili with all the fixin’s to be taste tested by the crowd. The winners received a $200 prize and a trophy along with the bragging rights. The winner for red went to 101 Mobility and green was taken by Dos Banditos.

Rotary Club President AJ Arnett remarked, “The event was the first time The Rotary Club of Castle Pines sponsored the chili cook off.  We had a larger turnout than last year and anticipate the event growing in size, as we will be able to point to our success from this year.” He continued, “We plan on adding more events for the kids and perhaps a dog costume contest in the future.  It was a great experience for not only our club, but the organizations that will ultimately benefit from the proceeds.”

A slide show with dozens of fun photos of the event is posted at www.CastlePinesConnection.com under “Photo Album.” Check it out!
