Showing appreciation for those who give so much

In addition to receiving goodie bags, The Connection intern writers from Rock Canyon High School were treated to lunch at Duke’s Steakhouse.  Pictured left to right:  Jack Hibbett, Sarah Bermingham and Riley Busch. We love and appreciate our student partnerships!

The Connection is thrilled to be working again this year with a talented group of intern writers at both Rocky Heights Middle School (RHMS) and Rock Canyon High School (RCHS).  With hopes of inspiring the next generation of journalists, our partnership with the schools provides opportunity for students to submit stories for review and publication in their local community newspaper.

Connection Managing Editor Lynne Marsala Basche (left) and Writer Lisa Nicklanovich (right) delivered special treats to the teachers, administrators and intern writers who help coordinate and write many of our School Scoop stories each month.

The contributions these students make to The Connection are fantastic, and they bring a younger perspective and voice to our readers.  We could not do it, however, without the guidance of Connection mentors Lynne Marsala Basche, who worked with 16 students from RHMS and Lisa Nicklanovich, who worked with three students who contributed monthly from RCHS.

The teachers and administrators from all of our local schools who help to coordinate photos and stories are an integral part of the process, too.  Their support and assistance make it all possible and we are especially appreciative for all they do.  We took time during Douglas County School District’s Employee Appreciation Week to deliver goodie bags to them as well.  Special thanks to Rita’s Italian Ice and Seasons 52 restaurant for helping make all the gift bags extra special.
