Sheriff Weaver asks for help with K-9 unit

Deputy Gerritt Kaufman with K-9 crime fighter “Boris.”

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office K-9 team is in great need of donations to replace two of the four police dogs that will be retiring this year. Sheriff Weaver recently approved the acquisition of one new dog and says he is hopeful to secure a second.

The K-9 unit has been funded by the generous
donations of community benefactors, without whom the K-9 unit would not be the successful and useful tool it is today. Each dog costs a minimum of $10,000, not including travel to pick up the dog and the subsequent training.

If you are interested in donating to this wonderful cause or know of a business or community member who would be interested in donating, contact Deputy Greg Black at 303-814-7005 or e-mail. All donations are tax deductible.
