Santa’s Sharing helps those in need during the holidays

By Elean Gersack

The Douglas/Elbert Task Force is seeking individuals, families, and groups to support its Santa’s Sharing sponsorship program. Many families served by The Douglas/Elbert Task Force are single parents raising children alone who won’t be able to afford the joys of the holiday season without the generosity of those in the community. There are several ways to donate, and every little bit helps.

Direct Sponsorship: Sponsors purchase and deliver gifts to a matched family. Submit sponsorship applications by Friday, December 10.

Indirect Sponsorship: Sponsors purchase a large gift card or several smaller gift cards for a family so the family can purchase the specific items they need. Submit sponsorship applications by Friday, December 10.

Toy Chest: Donate new toys for families who are unable to be sponsored for reasons such as entering the program late or not having a permanent address. Deliver toys to the Toy Chest by December 13.

Cash and Gift Cards: Gift cards are combined with the Toy Chest to provide a nice holiday for a family. Gift cards are especially helpful for seniors and teens. Cash donations are needed now more than ever to assist the many struggling just to pay rent or just to stay warm. Mail or deliver gift cards and cash donations to the Douglas/Elbert Task Force c/o Santa Sharing by Wednesday, December 8.

All sponsorship types are encouraged and welcome. Direct and indirect sponsors who are able to communicate with Hispanic speaking families are especially needed this year. Last year, 130 sponsors and donors provided gifts and gift cards to 215 families (approximately 1,000 adults and children). The need is expected to be greater this holiday season.

To learn more or to receive a sponsorship application, please visit www.detaskforce.org; contact Nani Lindig by e-mail or Kathy D’Amore by e-mail; or call 303-688-1114. Please reference “Santa” in the subject line of any e-mails. The Douglas/Elbert Task Force is located at 1638 Park Street, Castle Rock.
