The Rotary Club of Castle Pines (RCCP) was thrilled to honor Renee Palmer as Rotarian of the Year at its Fellowship Meeting on July 23. Each year, the club honors a member who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to the well being of the community and to Rotary’s primary focus of “service before self.”
Palmer is a charter member of the club and has been particularly active in working with the youth at Rocky Heights Middle School (RHMS) who are a part of the Rotary Interact Club. For the past several years, Palmer has worked tirelessly with the students and administration to bring in new members and make the club vibrant and rewarding.
This past year the club raised funds to donate $1,000 for a Rotary Shelter Box, donated $500 to Crutches for Africa and collected socks for the homeless. RCCP outgoing president Karen Becker remarked, “Renee spearheaded Rotary’s sponsorship of eight RHMS students to Rotary youth leadership camps. Her dedication and enthusiasm to provide positive development of young people in our community is deeply appreciated.”
In what she calls her greatest joy as a Rotarian, Palmer served as host to an exchange student from Ecuador in 2011. “Ruthy Fierro was such a joy! We won the exchange student lottery with her,” Palmer remarked enthusiastically. “She was wicked smart, and just so fun and delightful.”
Palmer was thrilled to be chosen as the 2015 Rotarian of the Year. “I felt so honored to receive the award,” Palmer remarked. For more information about the RCCP, visit www.RotaryClubofCastlePines.org.
