Beginning in August, the RidgeGate development just north of Castle Pines started offering free guided nature hikes on its undeveloped property. The moderate two-mile hikes are on a public trail called the Willow Creek Trail, which leads to the top of the bluffs. The guided tours are open to the public, and are led by a professional naturalist guide from South Suburban’s Carson Nature Center.

RidgeGate Development Manager Darryl Jones explained, “The Willow Creek Trail will remain an integral part of the RidgeGate community and the future expansion of the regional trail system in Douglas County. RidgeGate is offering the tours as a way to offer residents an additional amenity to living in the community, and as a way to show those from outside the immediate community some of the beauty of this area and the quality of life at RidgeGate and Lone Tree,” said Jones.

RidgeGate, owned by Coventry Development Corporation, is a new development in Lone Tree, located on the east and west side of I-25 south of Lincoln Avenue. The 3,500-acre property is an urban mixed-use community that will include commercial and residential development, a town center, and 1,000 acres of parks, trails, and open space.

“RidgeGate is a unique community in that it will offer a variety of residential choices and embraces the Colorado lifestyle,” Jones continued. “Outdoor living and the experience of the natural environment is part of our daily life, yet it offers the opportunity for convenient transportation, shopping, dining and entertainment and work opportunities all within the same community,” added Jones.

Each of the guided nature hikes will be limited to the first 20 people who respond to e-mail. The hikes will meet in Prairie Sky Park, next to the baseball backstop, near the Lone Tree Recreation Center. To date, the schedule is as follows:
Thursday Sep 9 Morning Fitness Hike 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
Thursday Sep 23 Full Moon Hike 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Thursday Oct 7 Nature Journaling Hike 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Thursday Oct 21 Nature Photography Hike 8:00 a.m to 9:30 a.m.
