RHMS bootcamp preps parents for middle school
By Amy Shanahan
The Counseling Staff at Rocky Heights Middle School (RHMS) is excited to offer a new program to parents of incoming sixth graders and students who are new to RHMS. Parent Boot Camp will take place on Wednesday, July 20, and will provide an opportunity for parents to learn the ins and outs of middle school.
Two sessions will be offered that day; the first from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and the second from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. During the course of two and a half hours, parents will have the ability to learn practical information about Parent Portal, enrichment classes, and many other tools and programs that the school offers. In addition, they will be made aware of some of the issues that kids in middle school face today, like cyber-bullying.
Counselor Kate Egan stated, “The staff at RHMS wants parents and students to feel as comfortable and prepared as possible when the school year begins. We are hoping that this program will aid parents in helping their child make a successful transition to middle school, and will help parents understand some of the issues that are new to this generation of kids.”
