Register for the Douglas County Rock Slide

by Carin R. Kirkegaard

The date is set and registration is underway for the Douglas County Rock Slide. Mark the calendar for November 14 and plan to be at Rock Canyon High School with running shoes laced and ready to go.

The Rock Slide is a one-mile fun run and 5K race that was designed to help foster a love for physical fitness and inspire children to try their best. Proceeds from the event will support local schools in the Castle Pines Community. The school with the largest number of participants wins a $1,000 bonus.

This year, rather than using race timing chips to gather the participants times, race coordinator Tony Golden, has found a new system that was used in the Firecracker 5K run held in Lone Tree over the Fourth of July.

According to Golden, using the new timing system will save nearly $5,000 in set up and operations costs for the event.

At press time Golden was still seeking sponsorship for the event. To find out about sponsorship opportunities contact Golden directly at contact by e-mail . To learn more about the event go to www.dcrockslide.com. Fans for this event can also find the Rock Slide on Facebook and show support.
