Ragdoll Annie

Pet Pedigree brought to you by Lone Tree Veterinary Medical Center

As if posing for a catalog, Annie’s tail and eyes set her apart from other cats of her breed.

Ragdoll cats are known for their relaxed, friendly and sweet personalities and just like an actual ragdoll, they relax and go floppy when picked up. They are stunning with their striking blues eyes, long fluffy tails and medium length coats.

Joyce Marie Travis loves cats, dogs and animals of all kinds, but for the last several years, she has been a cat lady. In commercial real estate for more than 40 years, Joyce Marie found cats were easier to care for than dogs. Not long ago she lost her two best cat friends, 18-year-old Mica Blue and 7-year-old Joseph. Joyce Marie felt her home was not complete without a cat, so she searched various rescue websites until she stumbled upon the blue eyes of Annie the ragdoll cat.

“Her striking blue eyes and bright pink nose light up my little corner of our lovely town,” said Joyce Marie.

Annie was rescued from the Pueblo branch of the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region at 6 months old. Based on her behavior, it was clear that she had spent majority of her kittenhood in a cage. She did not know how to jump and was wary of confined spaces. When Annie joined Joyce Marie at her new home in Tapestry Hills, she would sit on the floor and wiggle trying to decide if she could leap up onto the couch beside Joyce Marie. Annie has learned to be a cat and has free reign to jump on whatever she wants and has become quite a show off. On July 4, Annie will celebrate her second birthday.

Ragdoll cats enjoy being with their people and often seek attention. Annie is very vocal when she wants to be cuddled or entertained. She holds Joyce Marie’s hand in between her paws, comes when she is called, and loud noises will send her into Joyce Marie’s lap. Ragdoll cats are also empathetic and in tune with human emotions. Annie’s antics and affections provided Joyce Marie with much joy and comfort during a few difficult months after the loss of her mother.

Ragdolls get along well with all family members. While Joyce Marie is Annie’s security person, she adores her niece Madison and her brother Bill.

“I’ve had many, many delightful cats over the years,” concluded Joyce Marie. Annie is her only pet, but she is considering adopting a playmate for Annie.
