Mike Myers, together with Don Beck and Mike Timlin, started Pitchers & Patriots: Honoring the Brave. Founded in 2021, the organization’s fourth annual cocktail hour is planned at Haven in the Pines on August 10.

On Saturday, August 10, the fourth annual Pitchers and Patriots: Honoring the Brave (Pitchers & Patriots) cocktail hour will be hosted at Haven in the Pines from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. This local nonprofit supports and honors veterans; this year the event proceeds will go to Blue Angel Foundation, the SEAL Legacy Foundation and Project Sanctuary.

Pitchers & Patriots was started by Mike Myers, a resident of The Village at Castle Pines who is a former major league baseball player and World Series champion. He recruited two others to join him in this special cause: Hidden Pointe neighbor Mike Timlin, with whom he played on the 2004 Boston Red Sox World Series team and The Village resident Don Beck, who spent most of his career supporting charitable organizations.

At this year’s event, former Navy SEALS will participate in a roundtable discussion to share experiences. “The SEAL Legacy Foundation has been by our side since the beginning,” said Myers. In fact, the two Mikes were honored as unsung heroes last year at the SEAL Legacy Benefit and Gala in Dallas. Myers gave the credit to the community though. “I said, this isn’t us, it’s a group of people back in Colorado who do this,” he shared.

Some examples of direct impacts from money raised through Pitchers & Patriots include scholarships for children of fallen military members through the SEAL Legacy Foundation and sending entire families to a special PTSD camp with Project Sanctuary.

Myers offered that he has always had a heart for military members. With simple offerings such as paying for a meal or a coffee or handing out gift cards around the holidays, he is always grateful for the sacrifices of those who serve. “I do it because I feel it’s the right thing to do,” he said.

Myers is humbled by the support Pitchers & Patriots has received over the years. “The community has really wrapped their arms around it,” he said. To date, the annual events have raised $785,000; the hope is to exceed $1M with this year’s event.

Community support has been instrumental in helping Pitchers & Patriots: Honoring the Brave raise nearly $800,000 in three years. They hope to exceed the $1M mark with this year’s event on August 10.
