No new ZIP code … for now
There has been a movement across the country of communities wanting a single, unique ZIP code within their boundaries. The City of Castle Pines was among the leaders in this effort. Bill H. R. 8753, sponsored by Colorado Representative Lauren Boebert, requested 51 communities across the country, including Castle Pines and 10 other places in Colorado, each be designated a single, unique ZIP code. Castle Pines currently shares the 80108 ZIP code with the Town of Castle Rock and portions of incorporated Douglas County. At the State of the County address on December 12, Representative Boebert declared of the bill, “This is a big deal, for cities to have their own identity.”
There are several potential benefits to a location having a single, unique ZIP code, including: Cohesive community identity; improved emergency response time; simplification and increased accuracy of sales tax revenue allocation; and improved mail and delivery time.
More precise demographics for the ZIP code may lead to increased business development and real estate opportunities
The bill passed the House of Representatives on December 11, but died in the Senate on December 20, 2024. It is likely the City of Castle Pines will continue to pursue its own ZIP code next year, though they will have to start from the ground up.
