Leading Edge Physical Therapy, LLC opened its doors for business in January. With filled appointment books and drop-in new patients, they hit the ground running and haven’t stopped yet. Located in the King Soopers shopping plaza in Castle Pines North, Leading Edge offers the latest technology and treatment protocols in physical therapy.
Sara Tibby, M.S.P.T, has been practicing outpatient orthopedic physical therapy with an emphasis on manual therapy since 1992 and is working towards a certification in Functional Manual Therapy. Tibby diagnoses her patients with a hands-on approach to treatment.
From joint replacement rehabilitation, to high performing athletes, to the weekend warrior, Leading Edge treats the full range of physical therapy patients.
In a patient’s typical hour evaluation, Tibby is able to discover movement restrictions through manual therapy and then prescribe an appropriate treatment. Some of the hands-on techniques used include joint mobilization, soft tissue mobilization, neural mobilization, stabilization, intramuscular stimulation, electrical stimulation and infrared light therapy.
In many physical therapy offices, patients are diagnosed and given a set of exercises to perform either at the clinic or on their own with limited or no supervision. Tibby is with her patients the entire way, ensuring that each patient is doing the exercises correctly. Tibby will even meet her patients at his or her gym to help them transition from the clinic to working on their own.
“We don’t throw you to the wolves,” said Tibby.
Tibby also has her level 1 certification in Trigger Point Dry Needling, a treatment designed to help with muscle tightness and spasms. The treatment consists of placing small thin needles in the muscles and at trigger points causing the pain. The placement of the needles causes the muscles to contract and release, which improves the flexibility of the muscle and relief of the symptoms. Leading Edge will hold a seminar on Dry Needling in April.
Leading Edge has a total-body approach to treating patients. In addition to physical therapy, patients can make appointments for aromatherapy, raindrop therapy, as well as nutritional seminars.
