New Law Benefits Winer-Diners

A Colorado state law makes it easier to choose a bottle of wine with dinner at a restaurant.

Before the new law, restaurant diners who struggled to finish a bottle of wine during dinner had two choices: leave the remainder on the table, or drink it all, thus potentially increasing blood alcohol to unsafe levels.

But as of July 1, diners may request the bottle of unfinished wine be prepared to take home. The restaurant is responsible for securely sealing the bottle before it leaves the restaurant.

The diner’s responsibility is to place the bottle in a rear compartment in the vehicle for the ride home, as state law still prohibits open bottles of alcohol in the passenger compartment.
