New Hall of Fame recognizes impactful citizens
On March 11, the Board of Directors (Board) of the Douglas County Commissioners launched the Douglas County Hall of Fame to honor and recognize those in the community who impact the lives of others. Whether it is a student achieving high honors in academics, activities and sports or a veteran who continues to give back, citizens are doing meaningful things every day.
After the meeting, the Board inducted the first citizen, Staff Sgt. Howard A. Berger (101), and presented him with a County Commissioner Challenge Coin.
Berger, one of an estimated 825 Colorado centenarians, fought in WWII, served the U.S. Army overseas as a civilian for more than 50 years and launched the Over 90 Charitable Gift Annuity Plan, which allows nonprofits to pay higher rates of return on charitable gift annuities.
