New Canyons Development to Host Series of Open Houses
by Carin Kirkegaard
The Canyons, located just across I-25 to the east of Castle Pines North (CPN), is continuing its planning process. With progress starting in the southern portion of the development, questions regarding number of houses, size of lots and community amenities are being asked.
In response to these questions, The Canyons will be hosting a series of open houses designed to provide more detailed information about the plan to its neighboring communities. A time frame for these sessions is still in the works, but it is anticipated that open houses will occur during the summer and be completed by September.
Zoning and the overall master plan for the Canyons was approved in September, 2000. Since approval, plans for future neighborhood design have been underway. Within the view of CPN will be 511 acres of natural open space called, “The Canyons Preserve.” This strip of land will stretch from the CPN exit south to Happy Canyon Road.
The Canyons northern section was approved for 1,535 homes on 3,500 acres. Preliminary plans are for low-density housing interspersed with a golf course, trails, open space, a swim club and an equestrian trailhead.
Developers are in process with Douglas County Planning on a sketch plan for the new community.
