On the first Wednesday in February every year, high school student athletes across the country sign letters of intent to play their sport at the next level.  These students are committing to a sport while attending college in the fall.  We commend all the student athletes and celebrate the following who reside in our 80108 ZIP code. 

Douglas County High School

Madison Gil, volleyball, Davis & Elkins College, WV.

Coach Val Elliott said, “Madison is an unselfish player who will play whatever position her team needs.  Case in point, this year Madi played a lot as outside hitter at all of 5’-4’ but she played it well.  She was such a good leader for us this season and gave everything she had for this program and for that I am deeply thankful.”

 

Alexis Johnson, softball, Lamar Community College, CO.

Coach Brian Stebbins said, “Alexis has worked extremely hard over the past four years and has made big strides in her skill level.  She was one of our fastest players and contributed as one of our top base runners.  Alexis was such a pleasure to coach and was always such a positive person.”

Aaron Kim, football, Colorado Mesa University, CO.

Coach Gene Hill said, “Aaron had an outstanding senior season on the gridiron for us and was a force at running back.  He is very talented and has a tremendous work ethic to complement his skill level.  Aaron will be very successful at the next level and Colorado Mesa is getting a really good player.”

Javier Rodriguez, baseball, Garden City Community College, KS.

Coach Craig Gienger said, “Javier is such a talented pitcher, and I’m not sure he knows how good he can really be.  He will be our ace this season, and we are looking for good things from him.”

Rock Canyon High School

Matthew Givin, baseball, Xavier University, OH.

Coach Tyler Munro said, “Matt Givin is a talented athlete and a fantastic baseball player.  Matt is a three-year starter that will go on to be a two-way player for Xavier; both pitching and playing infield.  Matt has shown to be an exemplary citizen here at RCHS and will continue do so in college.  Xavier is extremely lucky to get such a tremendous baseball player and even a better human being.”

Macy Hairgrove, girls soccer, Texas Tech, TX.

Coach Mathew Henbest said, “Macy made an impact on our program very early.  She earned a spot on varsity as a freshman and very quickly proved herself to be a talented contributor.  Technically gifted, super quick, and hops that always amaze me, she has been a fixture on our team, rarely leaving the field the past three years.  Defensively, she’s a shutdown player, but she’s also offensively gifted.  Macy is also a wonderful young lady who is fun to talk to and has a passion for impacting her school in positive ways while participating on student council.  She is a two-time first team all-league selection, and one of the best to ever lace it up at RCHS.”

Noah Hermann, boys lacrosse, Colorado Mesa University, CO.

Coach John Gallant said, “Noah represents the Rock Canyon Lacrosse program with honor in the classroom, in the hallways, and in the community.  His strong work ethic, as well as the enthusiasm and love for the game he brings to our locker room and practice field, are important character traits I hope our underclassman recognize and learn from.”

Amelia Lee, girls golf, Creighton University, NE.

Coach Ron Saul said, “Amelia is one of the top golfers in the state of Colorado and has represented RCHS every year of her high school career in the state championships.  She earned first team league honors the last two years in the Continental league.  Amelia has a tremendous talent for the game of golf and has worked incredibly hard to be one of the top recruits in the state.”

Chloe Maciolek, girls soccer, University of Chicago, IL.

Coach Mathew Henbest said, “Chloe made varsity as a junior and made positive contributions right away in our back line.  However, due to injury Chloe could not play the rest of the season.  Following her surgery, she was right back on the sideline supporting her team and making her presence felt.  Chloe came to practice and to games to be there for her team, showing her commitment to the program.  Chloe is certainly one of the most beloved players we have had at RCHS.  Chloe is an exceptional student and role model for others to follow.  She’s a leader who is well equipped for the challenges ahead of her.”

Kyleigh Romero, gymnastics, Lindenwood University, MO.

Club coach Tom Forster said, “Kyleigh’s commitment to her gymnastics career has been remarkable.  I have been impressed with her dedication to make the drive to Colorado Springs for practice nearly every day since 2007!  She has helped her club team win many state championships and she is a role model to the younger girls in the gym.  We are so proud of the skills she has acquired, which have afforded her a full-ride scholarship to Lindenwood University in Saint Charles, Missouri.”

Jeremy Snowden, Boys Golf, Cal Lutheran, CA.
Coach Ron Saul said, “Jeremy (JT) earned first team league honors with the second lowest stroke average in the Continental league.  JT was co-captain of the 2016 RCHS Golf team, played as our number one golfer all year and represented RCHS the last two years at the state championships.  JT started out as a baseball player but made himself into a top golfer through hard work and dedication.”

Claire Steffe, girls soccer, University of Montana, MT.
Coach Mathew Henbest said, “Claire is a gifted player who first made the varsity team as a sophomore.  As a student and athlete, Claire has built strong ties to her friends and teammates over the years and will undoubtedly have a significant impact her final season as a Rock Canyon Jaguar; her play, experience, and leadership will help us greatly.  Claire is an accomplished club soccer player and one of the few two sport varsity players in our program; Claire took third at state in doubles tennis last spring.  We wish her all the best as she continues her playing career.”

Sara Stewart, girls lacrosse, Iona College, NY.
Coach Kelsi Goings said, “Sara is one of the most selfless players I have ever had the pleasure of coaching.  Sara’s lacrosse career can be characterized through this selflessness and her stats show that she puts the team in front of herself.  Winning draws, picking up ground balls, tallying numerous assists, playing in the midfield and all the while being one of our top scorers.  She completes the most difficult of tasks with flawless ease.  We have been so blessed to have her as part of our team, and I am sure Iona College will feel the same.”

Sloane Stewartson, softball, Louisiana Tech, LA.
Coach Debora Kortbawi said, “Sloane is an amazing student athlete.  Sloane is by far one of the most talented players to come out of the RCHS softball program.  She is such a strong dominant hitter who was an all-state selection for all four years in high school.  She will be a huge addition to the Louisiana Tech program.”

Blake Titensor, boys soccer, Holy Cross College at Notre Dame, IN.
Coach Aaron Carpenter said, “It was a pleasure coaching Blake who is a colorful personality and a player who breathes the beautiful game of soccer.  He was a vocal leader for us this past season, improving in all areas of goalkeeping.  Blake’s long punts/goal kicks, foot distribution as a first attacker, and tactical positioning were all excellent this past season, but it was his mental game that improved the most.  There were many times it was Blake that gave us a momentum swing based on a huge save he made tending goal.”

Regis Jesuit High School

Erich Nuss, boys tennis, University of St. Thomas, MN.
Coach Laura Jones said, “It has been my privilege and pleasure to coach such a fine young man over the past four years.  Erich is dedicated, hard-working and tenacious and, most importantly, a great leader and role model for young men.  The tennis program at Regis Jesuit is better because of the influence of Erich.  Erich is a four-time All Continental League Team, Regional Champion and state qualifier.  I expect that he will bring his positive influence to both the tennis team and the community of the University of St. Thomas.”
 

Valor Christian High School

Tess Boade, girls soccer, Duke University, NC.
Coach Brian Shultz said, “Tess is an incredibly talented and humble multi-sport athlete who has been a blessing to many programs here at Valor.  While soccer is her premier sport, Tess has also achieved state championships in her high school track and basketball careers as well.  Her coaches describe her as an incredible teammate and fierce competitor who will not be denied, who honors Christ in her humility and character in competition.  She can adapt to any situation and competes relentlessly.  Balancing multiple sports at a high level is oftentimes challenging, but Tess truly gives all of herself in her time, talents and treasure.”

Dylan McCaffrey, football, University of Michigan, MI.
Coach Rod Sherman said, “Dylan has embodied what it means to be a student athlete at Valor Christian High School.  In the classroom, he has worked diligently to earn numerous academic accolades taking some of the most rigorous classes on our campus.  His character is also exceptionally strong, as he continually exhibits a deep care and concern for his fellow classmates.  Athletically, he has worked extremely hard honing his craft and becoming the best teammate he can be, ultimately being successful in three football state championship games and twice being named the player of the year.”
