Metro District Increases Monthly Capital Improvement Fee

by Lane Roberts

The Castle Pines North (CPN) Metro District has increased the Capital Improvement fee from $13 to $18 per month for all residents. The increase, which took effect in January, was approved by the Metro District Board of Directors as part of the 2007 annual budget.

What is the Capital Improvement Fee? This fee began in May, 2005, in an effort to generate income needed to transition CPN from Denver Basin groundwater to renewable surface water. To date, residents have contributed more than $950,000 in Capital Improvement Fees that will be allocated toward future water supplies for CPN.

These fees will be instrumental in purchasing renewable water rights, storage space for water at Rueter-Hess and Chatfield Reservoirs, and for the construction of necessary infrastructure to treat and transport surface water.
