Pictures help to tell our story. A snap of our cameras captures those moments that are so important to us. This is what motivates photographer Kristin Mitchell.

“I like looking at a photo and having a moment rush back to me,” said Kristin. “I like taking photos of others so that they can have that same experience.”

Kristin and her husband moved into the Knightsbridge neighborhood in 2013. Being a wife to husband Ed and a mom to their three kids, Anna (10), Lila (7) and Louie (7), was always Kristin’s first priority, but she also wanted to start a business she could do out of her home.

“Photography is a hobby turned career for me,” added Kristin. “Before kids, I enjoyed taking travel photos, and after my oldest daughter turned 1, I really started to think about how I could use my interest and skills to become a newborn and family photographer.”

Kristin is coming up on 10 years with her business GollyG Photography. She has a home studio in an upstairs bedroom where she mainly photographs newborns and babies under 1 year old. But Kristin added that most of her photos are taken outdoors.

“I am fortunate to say that I am always fully booked during those fall months, even to the point of having to say no to more sessions,” she added.

Kristin said she loves being able to put her clients at ease, bringing out the real them. “I’m great at making myself the most awkward one at the session so that no one must feel self-conscious.”

She enjoys when her clients look at the photos and feel like it reflects who they truly are and “the best version of themselves.”

“Real smiles, real family moments,” Kristin added. “With some patience, games and posing suggestions, I can get those genuine interactions to play out.”

Kristin is currently working to expand the corporate and personal headshot section of her business. She believes headshots can showcase where a person is in their journey, and where they hope to take the next chapter of their lives. “I like the way you can use a photo to aid a new relationship or opportunity.”
