Meet the District Attorney

George H. Brauchler is the Colorado district attorney for the new 23rd Judicial District.

George H. Brauchler, the Colorado district attorney (DA) for the new 23rd Judicial District, took office on January 14, 2025. The new 23rd district serves Douglas, Elbert and Lincoln counties.

Brauchler has a 30-year career in law. He served as the elected DA for the 18th Judicial District from 2013-2021 as well as a Deputy District Attorney, Special Assistant U.S. Attorney, military prosecutor, criminal defense attorney, military defense attorney, and the Chief of Military Justice — the chief prosecutor—for Fort Carson, the 4th Infantry Division, and the U.S. Division North in Tikrit, Iraq.

Colonel Brauchler still serves as a military judge and legal advisor in the Colorado National Guard and is a Distinguished Graduate of the U.S. Army War College.

As a state prosecutor, Brauchler handled the felony cases for three, Colorado high-profile mass shooting cases: Columbine High School (1999), Aurora Theater (2012), and STEM Academy School (2019).

Brauchler has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Colorado School of Law, University of Denver College of Law, the U.S. Army JAG School, and has trained state, military, and international prosecutors across the United States and worldwide, including the International Criminal Court at The Hague.

Brauchler earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science, as well as a Juris Doctor from CU Boulder.

Serving on the boards of the Denver Police Foundation, Home Builder’s Foundation and Scouting, Brauchler and his family have lived in Douglas County for nearly 30 years.
