Lovin’ the library – check out these events

By Patte Smith

What great programs and activities the Douglas County Libraries (DCL) have created for our community in 2017.  Whether you are a romantic or a youngster, the month of February will find you “love” and a lot of laughs.

Love is in the air at the Castle Pines Library throughout the month of February and the first week of March.  Enjoy romance and revelry at free showings of favorite movies such as “The Incredibles,” “We Bought a Zoo,” “Shrek,” “The Secret Life of Pets” and “Under the Tuscan Sun,” only to name a few of the 27 movies that will be shown.  Visit www.dcl.org to see the complete list of movies and the dates and times.

A spring break camp will be held at the Castle Pines Library with tasty activities for kids.  From Monday, March 20 through Friday, March 24, the library is holding a five-day “Be a Chef” camp from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day.

Offered by the experts from Sticky Fingers Cooking ‘Cooks & Books’ Camp, kids ages six to 12 will bring favorite books to life through delectable recipes.  The chefs will create two or more recipes based on children’s books – “Green Eggs and Ham,” “Dragons Love Tacos,” “Cat in the Hat Last Stop on Market Street” and “Pancakes, Pancakes!”

Register in person at the Castle Pines Library for the camp that includes cooking supplies and daily snacks.  Payment and completion of the emergency contact/release form is required before a child’s registration is complete.

The DCL Reading Challenge began at the beginning of January, but you can still jump on board for a unique reading experience.  The challenge is to read 12 different kinds of books, such as a book that changed your life, a memoir, one based on a historical event, a book by an author of color, or a book turned into a movie.  This sounds like a fun challenge!

Visit blogs.douglascountylibraries.org/blog/2017/01/03/2017-dcl-reading-challenge/ to find out about the 2017 DCL Reading Challenge and to download a printable list of the 12 challenges.  After you check off each challenge submit the completed list to socialmedia@dclibraries.org to be entered to win a prize.
