Lone Tree Annexes Bluffs for Development

Conservation groups’ hopes to preserve the 230 acres connecting Bluffs Regional Park to the Highlands Ranch Open Space were dashed by the City of Lone Tree on November 18, when the City approved annexation of the property to allow the construction of 85 luxury homes.

With no adverse opinions from Lone Tree neighborhoods such as Carriage Club or Charter/Vista, the Council voted unanimously.

There is still some hope for preservationists, however. The Mayor said the City would be willing to de-annex this property if the County would adequately protect the ridgelines and open space. So it is now in the hands of the Douglas County Community Development Department to see what they can do before the remaining homes, which are contingent upon utilities and roads from RidgeGate, are built.

Those interested in this issue can contact Douglas County Community Development Director, Peter A. Italiano, at 303-660-7460, FAX 303-660-9550, or 100 Third Street, Castle Rock, CO 80104. E-mail pitalian@douglas.co.us.
