On March 5, the Douglas County Events Center hosted the Tenth Annual Empty Bowl, where nearly 1,000 supporters – including many Castle Pines North residents – came out to help raise funds for the Women’s Crisis and Family Outreach Center of Douglas County (www.twcfoc.org).
Each year, professional and amateur potters donate more than 2,000 hand-made bowls, whereby each bowl symbolizes the empty place a victim leaves behind when escaping an abusive relationship. Patrons of the Empty Bowl purchase a general admission ticket that includes a handmade pottery bowl of choice and a dinner of soup and bread donated by local eateries.

Local Castle Pines North sports organization, Five Stones Sports, took a group of more than 35 baseball players ages 12 and younger, parents, and siblings to work the event as part of their commitment to showing young athletes how to give back to the community and help a very worthy cause.
“Encouraging the kids to support their community is one of the cornerstone beliefs of Five Stones Sports,” said Kent Lansville, cofounder and director of athletics for Five Stones Sports. “This was the first of several events the boys will be encouraged to help with this year.”

By handing out programs, serving dessert, clearing tables, and helping clean up after the event, these players build team spirit and unity and came away with a real understanding of being selfless and serving others within the community. Allof the boys and their family members enjoyed giving back to their community and helping out for a good cause.
“That was a lot of fun,” said 10-year-old Castle Pines North resident Josh Danyliw. “When can we do it again?” he asked enthusiastically.
Founded in January this year, Five Stones Sports is a local team-oriented sports organization active in promoting youth sports teams. The nonprofit 501(c)(3) public charitable organization has been designed to build and shape athletes into individuals of high character and influence so they may become leaders amongst their peers and role models within society.
