Every year, Rock Canyon High School (RCHS) throws a themed after prom party that hosts about 800 students. By doing so, they keep students in a safe environment and provide an ample amount of fun and memorable things to do after the dance.
This year on April 9, RCHS will host its 10th annual after prom party. Since RCHS throws the biggest post-prom party in Douglas County, money needs to be raised to pull everything together. In November, RCHS held its first ever parents after prom gala at The Wildlife Experience in Parker. Joy Kelly, a CP resident and mother of two RCHS students said, “Since the event raises money for future after proms, you don’t need to be a parent of someone attending prom this year to be part of helping. It really is an event that benefits the entire community by keeping kids safe.”
The attire of the evening was “Colorado Cocktail” and guests nibbled on appetizers while enjoying live music. The 80s band, “The Goonies” performed, creating a pleasant atmosphere and filling the night with dancing. Kelly said, “I’m looking forward to next year’s event because it is great to have fun with friends while earning money for a great cause at the same time.” Heidi Wing, the chair of the gala said, “My favorite part was watching how much fun everyone was having. I loved chairing the event and had an amazing group of women working with me on it. I’m looking forward to chairing next year. This is such an important cause – keeping our kids safe on prom night!”
The tradition is set to live on and raise money for future RCHS after prom parties while simultaneously creating a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for all members of the community.
