His story to tell

Tim Gamble is quick to share a story and a smile.

We often share our life stories with loved ones: friends or family or maybe in a journal.

But it was a gift given to Knightsbridge neighbor and Castle Pines Connection graphic designer Tim Gamble, that had him reflecting on all of his past experiences when he wrote and published Funny You Should Ask …Tim Gamble: Tales of Resilience, Laughter and Life Lessons.

The beginning of Tim’s journey came in the form of a gift from one of his close friends who sent him an invite to Storyworth, a website that sends out monthly questions that the recipient answers. At the end of the year, the answers are bound into a book.

Those questions took Tim on a trip down memory lane; revealing chapters of his life and sparking in him a desire to create even more with this opportunity.

“About the third or fourth question in, I am thinking, my son is probably going to read this. But I thought maybe if my boy does read this, it will explain a lot,” said Tim. “Especially help explain that things are not always like they are on Leave It to Beaver.”

Tim’s wife, Sandy, was his editor. It had to pass the “Sandy test” to make it to print.

Tim’s writing is funny, self-deprecating and yet there are life lessons to be learned. From hitchhiking to being robbed at gunpoint (twice), to hanging out at a hippie commune in Trinidad, Colorado, Tim is colorful, playful and thoughtful in his reflection of his life’s journey up to this point.

Tim realized that life is messy and complicated, but his book shines light on the beautiful moments. “I tried to weave in whatever I learned along the way,” Tim explained. “Those experiences that might help others at the right time in their lives.”

Through his own efforts, Tim pushed it to Amazon, and it is currently a hot seller in the Fiction Satire section.

But Tim made it clear: it is not fiction. Despite Amazon not getting the “trueness” of it all, Tim said it is all true. He lived each word on the pages and said, like most of us, this book is just a glimpse into the amazing life he has had to this point.

“Everybody was a hero; everyone who touched my life I remember. I remember them for their kindness,” Tim shared. “There were so many people who had nothing to gain; but were always willing to help.”

Tim concluded that he has more in him but is thinking it will take some time before deciding to write a second book. To find Tim’s book, search “Funny You Should Ask Gamble” on amazon.com or see the ad on page 24.
