Havana Road realignment moves forward
At its March 14 regular meeting following a presentation by City staff and the applicant, City Council approved Resolution 23-14, a preliminary plan application for the property located at the northeast corner of Castle Pines Parkway and S. Havana Street within The Canyons Planning Area 1 (PA1).
Lots and lots of dirt will be moved in the coming year, according to Mary Hart, the representative for applicant North Canyons LLLP. “We realized the signal at this intersection of Castle Pines Parkway and PA2 is going to be really important for the commercial success of Canyonside and Castle Pines,” said Hart. Realigning the existing S. Havana Street within PA1 to connect with the northern entrance to Planning Area 2 (PA2) consolidates access and honors the city’s request to not have too many signals in a row.
Council’s robust conversation surrounding the applicant’s proposed realignment of S. Havana Street included the desire for an expedited timeline on the commercial component of The Canyons, the widening of Castle Pines Parkway, the placement of bike lanes, wildlife corridors, and the allocation of space for City monumentation – all of which will be revisited later in the application process.
“The approval criteria has been met, I am supportive of this, and I look forward to the work over the next year and a half to see this come to fruition,” said Councilman Kevin Rantz.
