Happy Canyon roundabouts project approved

By Elizabeth Wood West

Before the end of the year, Happy Canyon Road will have two new fully-landscaped roundabouts constructed at Gates 1 and 2 in the Castle Pines Village community.

Douglas County Commissioners gave their approval to Castle Pines Metro District (CPMD) for the construction of the roundabouts at the July 27 business meeting. As part of the approval, the commissioners approved a license agreement with CPMD and accepted right-of-way easements from the Castle Pines Homes Association to allow adequate space for construction of the roundabouts.

According to County Engineering Division staff member Janet Herman, the license agreement is to allow CPMD to install and maintain landscaping in the roundabouts. The landscaping plans will have to be approved by the engineering division prior to installation.

CPMD will pay for the construction of the roundabouts and the county will continue to maintain the roadway. CPMD District Engineer Jon Gray said that the roundabouts construction is tentatively planned to begin in early October. All lanes of traffic will be kept open during construction, with short delays as needed. The project is expected to be completed before the end of December.
