The building of two roundabouts on Happy Canyon Road at gates 1 and 2 in Castle Pines Village is nearing the halfway mark.

The Castle Pines Metropolitan District (CPMD) began major construction on the roundabouts project earlier this spring and, to date, the project has been free of glitches or problems. “The construction is going very well so far. Phase I [of the construction] for gates 1 and 2 is well underway,” said CPMD Engineer Jon Gray.

The roundabouts project is designed to help slow traffic and increase public safety at key locations on Happy Canyon Road. “Drivers are still speeding through the detour area; however, the Douglas County Sheriff has been fantastic in helping to patrol,” said Gray.

Douglas County Engineering Director Fred Koch said that the speed limit will remain at 35 mph on Happy Canyon Road; however, the speed limit within the roundabouts will be reduced to 15 mph, once the project is complete.

According to Gray, the roundabouts project is on schedule and CPMD plans to have the project completed by October 31.
