Two 80108 high school graduates have been selected to receive education grants from CORE Electric Cooperative (CORE). Alexandra Royal from Rock Canyon High School and Leonardo Blanco from Douglas County High School will each receive $2,000 to help with higher education expenses.

Alexandra Royal plans to attend Montana State University in the fall.

Leonardo Blanco is heading to Boulder in August to start his college career at the University of Colorado. He is one of two 80108 graduates awarded an education grant from CORE.

“I’m very grateful for the assistance,” said Leonardo Blanco. Leonardo plans to attend the University of Colorado at Boulder and major in business marketing. “CU – Boulder has always been my first choice. I like the program at Leeds Business School and it fits my passions and what I will do in my future,” he shared.

Leonardo aspires to be a leader in the Colorado Japanese/American business economy. He already knows how to read, write and speak three languages, including Japanese.

Leonardo lives with his family in Sapphire Pointe. They have been members of CORE for decades. That is how Leonardo heard about this financial opportunity.

Since 1988, CORE has awarded grants to graduating high school seniors in CORE’s service territory who plan to continue their education. This year CORE awarded grants to five recipients from each of the seven director districts. Grant recipients are chosen through a lottery drawing because there are no scholastic requirements.
