Got character? RHMS has it!

submitted by Amy Shanahan, RHMS

Rocky Heights Middle School (RHMS) continues to receive recognition as an outstanding school. The middle school has been chosen as a State School of Character for the third year in a row, one of only three schools in the state of Colorado.

State Schools of Character are schools that are deemed to actively promote character education. This is achieved by practicing a proactive approach to helping students socially, emotionally, and ethically in their development by teaching them how to do and be their best in a positive atmosphere. At RHMS, the character education motto Respect, Own it, and be Kind (ROK) are the core values at the heart of the RHMS culture.

Seventh grade counselor, Clark Wilhelm, says, “This is a great achievement for the community of Rocky Heights. Our families have embraced the vision of a well-rounded student incorporating the high standards of character education. This is a celebration of our students using their critical thinking skills in every aspect of their life.”

RHMS will be recognized in June for their achievement from the Character Education Partnership. In addition, RHMS has been selected for consideration as a National School of Character
