Please join the Castle Pines Chamber of Commerce in helping to change the lives of homeless students right here in our area. In 2015, there were 910 homeless students in the Douglas County School District. This number seems unreal given that Douglas County is one of the wealthiest in the country. However, the reality is that there are students and families struggling right here in our midst.
One year ago, local resident Joe Roos took action to aid this population by founding the nonprofit organization Hide in Plain Sight (HIPS). The primary mission of HIPS is to provide scholarships to homeless high school students in order to help them attend college or vocational school and help ensure a successful future. To date, HIPS has awarded eight scholarships to some amazing and well-deserving students, with plans to award 35 more through next June.
The Castle Pines Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Castle Rock Business Builders is excited to host the Gatsby Glam Gala, a fundraising event which will solely benefit HIPS. The gala will be held on October 28 at the beautiful Cielo at Castle Pines with music from local Denver band Mod Vinyl and delicious food from Occasions Catering.
Roos has acquired sponsorships and support from a variety of businesses and individuals throughout Douglas County. Roos is looking forward to the event as a venue to showcase the exemplary students his organization is aiding. “The Gatsby Glam Gala is a roaring twenties-themed event. The 1920s were also known for the Great Depression. Today, our homeless students face their own personal great depressions. Hide in Plain Sight provides scholarships to lift these kids out of adversity to self-sufficiency,” explained Roos. “We are so thankful to our many sponsors who recognize the need to serve these students, and we are looking forward to a really wonderful event to honor them.”
Sponsorships and tickets to this event are available at www.GatsbyGlamGala.com. Please join us in changing the directions of these students’ lives.
