Furry friends together again

By Elean Gersack

On Saturday, September 19 from 8 a.m. to noon dogs and their owners will converge on the trails at Glendale Farm Open Space for a wag of a good time at the annual Denver Dumb Friends League’s Wag ‘n Trail.

The 1.6 mile hike will boast beautiful views and plenty of companions.  Four legged friends can enjoy time off-leash at the five-acre dog park near the trailhead, too.

It’s all for a great cause, The Buddy Center.  The Buddy Center in Castle Rock is the south shelter for the Dumb Friends League and helps find homes for unwanted pets in our community and reunites lost pets with their owners.

There is no registration fee to participate, but donations are encouraged.  Those raising at least $75 will enjoy some fun prizes including a t-shirt, ice cream for two (your dog and you) and a family photo from the event.

“This is one of our favorite events of the year,” said Matt Levien, Buddy Center director.  “It not only helps support the Buddy Center and the services we provide to the pets and people of Douglas County, but it’s also a fun opportunity to get outdoors, bring Coloradoans and their dogs together and contribute to a wonderful cause.”

Glendale Farms Open Space is located just east of Surrey Ridge.  Take the frontage road that runs north/south along the east side of I-25 between Castle Pines Parkway and RidgeGate Parkway and look for the archway into the park.  To learn more or to register, visit ddfl.org/WNT or call 303-751-5772, ext. 1378.
