The ‘awww’ factor was in full force when Operation Secondhand Paws (OSP) teamed up with Farmers Insurance Silverhart Agency to host a pet adoption event in early October.
The nonprofit rescue agency brought two litters of puppies and one litter of kittens that were available for adoption to Village Square Lane in the City of Castle Pines. What started out as a late morning lawn event, flowed into a lively evening as word got out about the adoptable animals in the neighborhood. Though large smiles were covered by masks, the happiness of those gathered could not be contained.
Farmers Insurance marketing manager Brittany Arellano marveled at the pure joy that radiated throughout the event. “This is the first year for Farmers to host this adoption event, and it far exceeded our expectations. It was such an amazing day! We were proud to have the opportunity to give exposure for OSP, who is dedicated to saving animals from kill shelters and finding them homes,” said Arellano.
People were elated to be outdoors watching their neighbors eagerly pick out the newest member of their family. Six kittens and 13 puppies found forever homes that day. Though many visitors left empty-handed, one can only imagine the temptation to take one of the adorable pets home, especially after having the opportunity to hold and pet them.
Sarah Neumann and her son Charlie (pictured top left) gleefully picked out a mixed-breed puppy, more affectionately called a mutt, that they named Sugar. “We believe she is a lab, shepherd, boxer, terrier mix,” said Sarah. “We’re calling her ‘our little Polaroid,’ because we will have to see what develops!” Like many, the Neumanns think mutts make the cutest and most colorful pets.
