Funds Sought to Fight XCEL’s Expansion Plans
XCEL Energy’s plan to replace the power lines that run through Castle Pines North with taller, more powerful, noisier ones is in progress. However, XCEL still needs to get a permit from the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) before moving forward.
The CPN Master Association will participate in the PUC hearings, and has secured a lawyer for the case. It is estimated that the legal fees to represent CPN will exceed $35,000. The Master Association has already paid $10,000, leaving CPN short $25,000.
The legal and organizational costs of the effort to fight the power line upgrade through CPN will require additional funding and support from local neighborhood HOAs and individual CPN residents. The proposed solution to this shortcoming is that each household living adjacent to the power lines is being asked to contribute $150 per home, and everyone else is being asked to contribute $30 per home in order to fund immediate legal fees.
Contributions should be sent to: CPN Master Association, 7402 Yorkshire Drive, Castle Rock, CO 80108. (Please indicate on your check memo: ?Power Line Defense Fund.?)
The committee is looking for volunteers to help get the word out, hand out flyers, collect contributions, and show up at PUC hearings. It’s also critical that volunteers help organize neighborhoods for support. Send an e-mail to powerlines@caldero.net for more details.
