In the May issue of The Castle Pines Connection, we brought you a story about Lauren Champine, a then-fourth grader at Buffalo Ridge Elementary (BRE) School who was selected as a student ambassador to represent Colorado at the Fuel Up to Play 60 Leadership Summit in Charlotte, North Carolina this summer.
Lauren’s dad, Mark Hickey, shared his thoughts with us about her trip: “What a terrific experience this was for Lauren and we are very grateful to the Western Dairy Association for sponsoring Lauren,” stated Hickey. “And [thanks] also to Mrs. Ronda Gutierrez, program director and physical education teacher at Buffalo Ridge for all she does in making our childrens’ lives better and her dedicated work on the Fuel Up Program.”
Lauren in her own words summed up the conference in this way: “It was an awesome and life changing experience to go to the Fuel Up to Play 60 Leadership Summit for me. I had the chance to meet and work with the other state ambassadors, which has really motivated me to share the program with all of my Buffalo Ridge classmates. I am going to work really, really hard this year to get all of Castle Pines involved in the Fuel Up to Play 60.”
