Friends of Horses Rescue and Adoption Horse Show – November 15
If you love horses, you’ll want to mark your calendar for November 15! Friends of Horses, a horse rescue and adoption organization, is hosting its first “FOHRAA Horse Show,” which will take place from 10 a.m. to approximately 3 p.m.
Friends of Horses is based in Metropolitan Denver, and strives to place foals and horses in adoptive loving homes. Most of the rescued horses are foals, retired thoroughbred racers, and horses that have been rescued from slaughterhouses.
The organization is run strictly by volunteers, many of which are children. Volunteers work on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon and/or Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and have an ultimate goal of helping to “gentle” the horses, and attempt to make them adoptable. This includes grooming, haltering, feeding, training, and riding some of the more mature horses.
The horse show will feature all of the Friends of Horses volunteers who are between the ages of eight and 17. Each volunteer was matched with a foal, and has been responsible for training it for the show. Some of the informal, non-competitive events will consist of grooming, haltering and leading skills, an obstacle course, and horse decoration.
If you or your child(ren) are crazy about horses, this event should interest you! Attendance would also be a good way to determine if you should get involved with this organization.
